St Teresa’s learner looks forward to last year of high school

Hannah Duvel experienced once in a life-time experiences through the Johannesburg Junior Council and Student Representative Council.

St Teresa’s School learner Hannah Duvel found Grade 11 challenging but persevered.

Duvel said Grade 11 came with a lot of pressure.

“Everyone around me had tried their best to prepare me for the seriousness and intensity of Grade 11. The constant reminders that ‘these results count for university applications’ made me feel anxious.”

She added she decided to be kinder to herself, took one small step at a time and conquered small assignments and goals she had set for herself. The 17-year-old said although the grade had challenges, she made notable personal growth.

“These achievable goals along with the enduring encouragement from my family, friends and teachers helped me to get through the pressures of Grade 11 and persevere. It was a year of learning and while it was challenging, I managed to maintain a positive outlook by signing up for the Johannesburg Junior Council and the Student Representative Council where I participated in outreach programmes and got to thoroughly enjoy once-in-a-lifetime experiences.”

Duvel concluded that she anticipated her matric dance and French tour in the next year.
