Roedean Senior School’s deputy head of curriculum, Julie Penrose reflects while appreciating the 2022 academic year.

Penrose said this time of the year offered the school an opportunity to reflect on all that was experienced and achieved.

“As the textbooks close and the iPads shut down for the year; as the whiteboards are cleaned and the lockers cleared out, we look forward to, and will appreciate, the well-deserved rest and quality time with our families that awaits us.”

Penrose added that the school was pleased to welcome families back onto the school grounds, as sporting fixtures, school productions, and events returned, in full swing, after the long-awaited end to the Covid-19 lockdown restrictions.

“Engaging with parents that we had only seen over screens recently and watching the pupils physically reconnecting with their friends. We can no longer take these little things for granted, as one of the biggest lessons that we learned from the pandemic, is the importance of connectedness, kindness, tolerance, and understanding.”

She added that the school introduced changes in the curriculum, which brought much success to the ways in which pupils are thinking and learning, and the way teachers are guiding and instructing.

Penrose concluded that this year, she celebrates the kindness that the community members have shown for each other and wishes everyone peace as we head into the festive Season.
