Lions Blind Cricket celebrate outstanding season
Lions Blind Cricket recently celebrated a phenomenal season, walking away with a tournament win and much-deserved recognition.
It was a phenomenal season for the Central Gauteng Lions Blind Cricket team, walking away with a tournament win and much-deserved recognition.
In a celebration at DP World Wanderers Stadium on November 22, the team and sponsors celebrated their recent T20 National Tournament shared win.
Lions Blind Cricket was also recognised as a finalist in the Sports Federation of the Year Category. Blind Cricket South Africa president and captain of the South African National Team (Proteas Blind) Isaac Bidla was recognised in the Sports Personality of the Year Category.

“We [as a team] are so honoured to be here, this journey has been a long time coming and the team has worked incredibly hard this season,” said Central Gauteng player Bidla.
While the team recuperates and prepares for the next season, seven of its players and the coach will be joining the Blind Proteas at the World Cup in India from December 4 to 18.
Buhle Bhidla, Johan Schroeder, Lwande Bhidla, Sibusiso Mdlalose, Doctor Malinga, Siyavuya Mahlikihla and Isaac Bidla will join coach Michael da Silva as the nation’s best visually impaired players compete on the international stage.

“This World Cup will be a great opportunity to showcase the sport of blind cricket at a high level to both local and international crowds,” said Lions Cricket CEO Jono Leaf-Wright.
“We have made an intentional decision with our sponsors to make sure that we create an opportunity and a platform for them to excel and flourish with zero excuses.

“Whilst we still have gaps along the journey to fill, I believe we have closed many of those gaps. We have closed them because you as a team continue to inspire us and a coach like Michael da Silva.”
The national team are set to depart for the World Cup on December 3.
