Ariff’s film festival set to premiere at the Ster-Kinekor at The Zone in Rosebank

I call on all of you to fill up the Ster-Kinekor at The Zone in Rosebank to watch and enjoy the curated films and judge them for yourselves, says Ariff and festival president Lala Tuku.

The screening of some of ‘the most impactful and world-class movies’ of Africa Rising International Film Festival (Ariff) was featured at the Ster-Kinekor at The Zone in Rosebank from November 24 to 27.

Dubbed a moment of celebrating ‘our stories and paying tribute to African cinema’, Ariff will premiere its world-class social impact film festival which was inaugurated in 2018 with a mission to tell African stories and to leave no storyteller behind, will be no different this year except that the line-up of films continues to scale the upward trend.

“As we celebrate our growth in the industry, we say #HereWeAre!, which serves as our theme for the 2022 festival, serves as an honour for Ariff as we seek to imprint a powerful legacy of African stories on our archives and also continue to develop African stories as told by Africans themselves,” said festival director Ayanda Sithebe at the launch.

“We want to use the platform of the festival to interrogate where African storytelling is and where we would like to see it in a few more years to come,” Sithebe said.

An additional feature to the festival will be Ariff’s Film Child programme which will seek to bring cinemas and storytelling to the African child and will take the form of busing children from Gugulethu Children’s Home to the cinemas to enable them to experience the feel of cinemas first hand, Sithebe said.

Included in the festival was stories from children who were given the platform to pitch their stories under the banner of Crazee Pitch which will enable the children to pitch and birthmark and the best of the pitches will also be screened and form part of the paid pitches.
