According to Breastcancer.org, “Triple-negative breast cancer is invasive breast cancer that is estrogen receptor-negative, progesterone receptor-negative, and HER2-negative. About 10% to 15% of all breast cancers are triple-negative and is usually more aggressive, and more likely to recur than cancers that are hormone receptor-positive or HER2-positive.”

“The cancer came in the form of a lump on my left breast, I underwent chemotherapy and radiation. This year I discovered another lump in my right breast and did not experience any other symptoms.”

She mentioned that there was a history of cancer in her family and her sisters were also breast cancer survivors.

The 48-year-old added that although October 17 was her 12th and final chemotherapy until surgery, she was glad for the support she received.

“Next month I will be seeing my doctor and undergo radiation. Having faith in the Lord as well as a husband and two sons who have been encouraging throughout this journey has helped me.”

Du Toit added that she had to receive 11 blood transfusions due to the harsh effects of the life-threatening treatment.

The survivor said she was looking forward to the end of her journey in December which was the expected month for her surgery.

“December will be the month when my doctor will decide if I have to do the Goldilocks surgery or not.”

According to Bedford Breast Cancer Center, “The Goldilocks mastectomy surgeon removes any cancerous tissue and skillfully reforms a smaller breast using the residual healthy tissue.”
