Sportswomen shine at Gsport4girls

Banyana Banyana coah, Desire Ellis says such awards are a nod and encouragement for sportswomen.

To celebrate and support sportswomen, Gsport4girls hosted its 17th edition of Africa’s longest-running women’s sports awards on September 14.

Speaking at Wanderers Club, sports presenter Julia Stuart said the awards were aimed at acknowledging sportswomen in the country.

“We’re celebrating our sportswomen’s unrelenting spirit and their will to keep going for gold medals in their games,” said Stuart.

Banyana Banyana soccer player Andile Dlamini added that she was honoured to be nominated for the awards.

“I am grateful to be nominated by an initiative that celebrates women. Being recognised today means volumes for my career and I already feel like a winner just by being here,” said Dlamini.

Cricket broadcaster and Gsport4girls founder Kass Naidoo said she hoped every nominee and winner left proud and inspired.

“To all those shortlisted for an award tonight, remember to own the night whether you leave with or without an award tonight, make sure you leave a proud finalist,” said Naidoo.

“It’s so important to use this night to boost and remind yourself of the power you have and continue to shine in your career,” Naidoo concluded.
