Bramley police nab alleged cellphone snatchers

Three suspects were recently arrested and detained at the Bramley Police Station for allegedly robbing a victim of their cellphone.

Bramley police recently arrested three suspects for allegedly robbing a victim of their cell phone in the policing precinct.

The suspects, between the ages of 29 and 39, reportedly approached the victim who was walking along Hasting Avenue.

“Three occupants [of a vehicle] driving slowly suddenly stopped next to him [the victim]. One adult male got out, approached him and grabbed his cellphone out of his hand,” said Bramley police spokesperson Captain Molefe Mogodi.

The suspect got back into the vehicle but as the suspects were about to drive away, CAP Security reaction officers arrived on the scene and blocked the vehicle off.

“The victim informed the security reaction officers that he had been robbed by one of the three men of his phone. The security officers then apprehended them and handed them over to the police.”

The suspects’ vehicle was seized and the stolen cellphone was recovered.

“They [the suspects] are detained at Bramley Police Station where they will be charged with common robbery. [The vehicle] will be kept at the SAPS pound while the investigation is underway.”

Bramley Police Station management applauded the good work done by CAP Security.

“The three men who are now the suspects will go through our system to check if they are on our wanted list or not,” said Mogodi.

Crime-related information can be reported to 08600 10111, the Bramley Police Station on 011 445 4100 or the MySAPS mobile application.
