Craiglands Remedial School beats Guiness World Record collecting recyclable plastic bottles

Craighall Park-based school learners' commitment leads them to beat the Guinness World Record.

Craiglands Remedial School set a Guinness World Record with plastic bottles on July 30.

The school was inspired by the learners of St Edward’s Prep in Reading, United Kingdom who were awarded a Guinness World Record after spelling out a sentence with 3 325 plastic bottles.

In honour of Mandela Day and Month, Craiglands aimed to beat this record and collected 6 700 recyclable plastic bottles to represent the 67 minutes of Mandela Day.

Principal Lindsay Fisher said, “The event was a day to remember for our school community and was thoroughly enjoyed by all with activities including all things of recyclable plastic bottles such as the polaroid pics with bottle Craig, a bottle shop, and guess the number of bottle tops.”

Fisher added their learners showed their commitment, perseverance, and responsibility during the journey of a good cause. They all have embraced the values of Mandela Day and without a doubt, would continue to instil these values.

“As a small school with only 66 learners, we managed to do the impossible and beat the Guinness World Record and we are focused on leading Craiglands with purpose and a divine influence, driving and modelling a learning community that offers valued perspective and insight.”
