Lifeline continues to empower victims of abuse

Monthly self-care sessions to release stress, tension, and emotional fatigue through aerobics and dialogues with one another at Norwood.

Norwood Lifeline team hosted its inaugural wellness event at the Norwood Police Station on August 23.

With great success and a positive atmosphere, the Lifeline managers, team members of Jeppe, Norwood, Brixton, Booysens, and Yeoville attended as well as members of SAPS and JMPD.

The spearhead of the event and Lifeline sector A manager Refilwe Huma emphasised that it was important that the Lifeline team managers were allowed to meet, exchange ideas and support each other regularly with the emphasis being on wellness.

“I plan to run these wellness sessions monthly, and they will initially be held at Norwood Police Station but will then move from station to station in Sector A,” she said.

Ward 73 councillor Eleanor Huggett showed great support for the Lifeline team and called them unsung heroes as they played a vital role in supporting victims of abuse.

Huggett said she was honoured to have been invited even though she could not actively participate in the vibrant exercise session because of her knee surgery.

“Thank you to the CPF for donating water for the event and the generous resident who sponsored the eats, resident Alex Cowie for kindly making all the eats and adding to them to make sure everyone had more than enough sustenance,” she added.

Both Huma and Huggett thanked the CPF, JMPD, and SAPS for their continued support.

Details: Lifeline is looking for people who could volunteer in the monthly Wellness Programme by running once-off sessions such as yoga, pilates, self-defence, and more. Contact councillor Eleanor Huggett on 071 785 8068 to put you in touch with Refilwe Huma.
