Tip-off leads to well-known illegal alcohol seller’s arrest in Houghton
A business owner well known in the Houghton community was arrested for lack of valid documentation to sell alcohol.
A tip-off led to the bust of a businessman who was selling alcohol without a licence in Houghton.
Norwood Police Station spokesperson Sergeant Eric Masotsha reported that the community’s ‘well-known’ man was arrested on August 12.
“The Norwood SAPS liquor officer Sergeant Alugumi Tshikororo with crime prevention members made a breakthrough with the case. The suspect was found at his business place running his business as usual. On their arrival, police officers identified themselves to him and asked him to produce a licence to sell alcohol to the public only to find that the documents he produced did not allow him to render such services,” said Masotsha.
He said the liquor was confiscated and the man was arrested.
“The Norwood SAPS and its management would like to thank the loyal community for giving a tip-off which led to an arrest. The arrested suspect will appear before a court of law in due course.”
