Cyclists break a sweat for Ort Jet’s charity cause

Cyclists break a sweat to help Ort Jet raise funds for entrepreneurs.

The organisation hosted a cyclethon class with two sessions at Montana Club in Rosebank to raise funds for small and medium-sized businesses on July 28.

Ort head of business, Helen Silverman-Itzkin said, “How we support businesses is through mentorship, networking and training, we take small and medium-sized businesses and give them all the tools they need to succeed. The initiative began in 2018. Unfortunately, [during] Covid-19 we couldn’t do anything but we are so happy that people are interested in supporting entrepreneurs.”

Silverman-Itzkin said some of the business Ort assists came out stronger from the pandemic. “Covid-19 has caused the small businesses to battle, but those which have survived have come out stronger to face adversity. Ort Jet put together special initiatives during the hard lockdown, we had business panels and panels that helped businesses develop other businesses that could flourish.”

Milaine Sutil said although she hadn’t cycled in a while, she had fun at the class. “I am here because it’s a cause for charity. I haven’t cycled in a long time but it was awesome and the atmosphere was fun. I really had fun, I also won a goodie bag with treats. I would definitely recommend people to attend.”

Another cyclist Jade Adams said attended the cyclethon as she believes in giving back. “It was a fun experience although I am tired because I am unfit.

Overall it’s a good experience and healthy way of fundraising, I am here on behalf of my business as we are fundraisers as well.”

CEO of Ort Jet Ariellah Rosenburg said the organisation believed in providing the youth with skills relevant to the job market. “Ort is an educational NGO, all our fundraising efforts are to ensure our projects are supported which is to fulfil the mission of making people employable. Ort specialises in the areas of IT, looking at the skills which are required and identified from schools.”
