Lejay Cheng bags two sliver medals

Deutsche Internationale Schule Johannesburg Grade 1 learner shines in the Ekurhuleni Karate Federation championships.

Admiring and joining what his sister does, Lejay Cheng followed his love for karate at the age of five.

The Deutsche Internationale Schule Johannesburg learner made his school and family proud in the Ekurhuleni Karate Federation championships, where he bagged two silver medals in the categories of kata and kumite.

Lejay’s mother, Jennifer Lu, said he started karate in 2020 and he was always watching his sister train.
“Lejay is thrilled to have achieved two silver medals, and it was also a good experience for him taking part in a bigger competition against other opponents,” she said.

The seven-year-old said out of the two disciplines he had won, he preferred kumite as it was more exciting to score points. He added he trained twice a week with his loving and caring karate shihan, Sean Ahmed and the other six senseis.
