Former Miss SA is grateful to be part of an initiative which helps alleviates food insecurity.

“We have an excess of 450 people here packing over 5 000 food parcels to give back to various communities around the province. What this day signifies is what’s possible in this country when we all unite with a common vision, when we all work together and hold hands for a common cause. It’s a special day of celebration and today also shows that sport and people have the power to change the world.”

Ashraful Aid was responsible for the sourcing of all the food and hygiene hampers which will be donated to various families and other NGOs in the province including Early Development Centres and child-headed homes.

Central Gauteng Lions blind cricket member Cyril Mdlalose said although he was blind, he had no trouble packing food into boxes.

“Packing today wasn’t difficult at all because there was great communication from the assistance I received. Today was my first time participating in 67 minutes, and in future I plan on continuing to be a helping hand and offer my 67 minutes on this special day.”

Former Miss South Africa Shudufhadzo Musida said she was happy to be part of such an initiative.

“I was in Alexandra township at a foundation, reading my book to the children and having a conversation with them prior to coming here. I came here to help with the packaging of food into boxes and I am happy to be part of this wonderful initiative which will help alleviate or at least make food insecurity better in the country.”
