Khelan bags gold at Olympiad

According to Khelan Desai, winning the Olympiad is a cherry on top of all the incredible things he has done.

Khelan Desai, a learner at St John’s College, cannot contain his excitement about winning the English Olympiad.

The English Olympiad is a national competition in which respondents are given a source booklet ahead of the Olympiad to study and are then tested on the pieces in the booklet.

“I feel ecstatic about my win and an amazing achievement, I am exceptionally glad I was able to win this tough competition,” said Desai.

The 17-year-old said the Olympiad writing took place in March, and they were given prizes on July 1, and he only found out that he won at the prize-giving as the rank order of the top 12 is kept secret until the event.

Desai added that the writing experience was very pleasant, and the text was fantastic to read and write, even though the test was stressful but manageable.

“In terms of the experience at Grahamstown, where the prize-giving took place, it was resoundingly the best memory of my life. The other 12 participants were incredibly intelligent and kind people, and we also developed an incredibly strong friendship on the trip.”
