Nicarela Charity raises funds while keeping Parkview warm

Nicarela Charity to host their famous Potjie kos competition in July.

As Mandela Month nears, charities across the country are preparing to celebrate the day and month by making a mark and making a difference.

Nicarela Charity will host their famous potjiekos competition again on July 17 under the trees in George Hay Park, Parkview.

Due to Covid-19, the competition was on hold, but the reigning champions along with 20 other participants will compete for the best pot.

Coordinator of Nicarela Peter Atteridge urged chefs to participate by entering their exciting open coal recipes.

“Teams of four are welcome with themed meal ideas and contestants will be judged on their food, their vibe and their decoration. Enter early to win awesome prizes and help Nicarela support their chosen charities which include care homes for abused women and children, local school bursaries and the homeless,” he said.

Atteridge added the Parkview competition was an institution where at least 36 teams compete to be crowned ‘potjiekos champions’.

“But visitors on the day love the atmosphere and come early to see the teams decorated stands, take part in voting for the ‘best decorated stall’ and stand a chance to win the lucky draw.

“Join the teams from 9:30am and enjoy a bacon roll, pancake or spare ribs. Kids can have fun in the fun zone while parents relax in the shady beer and wine tent with live music. Perfect cups of coffee and Linden loaves also available.”

Food made on the day will be sold to visitors from midday with either rice or pap at R80 per bowl/ two for R150. Credit card facilities available.
