Hijacking kingpin put behind bars

a 28-year-old suspect said to have terrorised drivers on N3 freeway is finally arrested by Sandringham police.

The Sandringham Police Station welcomed the arrest of a notorious hijacking suspect. Spokesperson Warrant Officer Aaron Lebuso confirmed that the 28-year-old suspect had been arrested on July 6.

Detectives involved in cracking the case, Sergeant Hasani Solly Mashaba and Constable Tsekiso Mofokeng, shared on their roles in the case. Sergeant Mashaba said the suspect had been terrorising people on the N3 freeway and London Road off-ramps for a while.

Mofokeng said the suspect was arrested in Sandton in possession of a robbed motor vehicle after a follow-up. “ An identification parade was conducted successfully and the suspect’s case was placed on the court roll and he appeared in court on July 8 and will go back to court on July 14.”

Adding to that, Mashaba said the suspect would also be held answerable for a different case for which he had been evading police.

Spokesperson Lebuso added, “Since this guy was arrested, we have seen a massive decline in cases of car-hijacking that have been taking place there. In fact, none have been reported from July 6 to date, so we can safely say that the kingpin of hijacking has been arrested. We are very grateful for the detectives involved and for their hard work during this cold weather to crack this case.”
