Help make Mandela Day memorable for the elderly

Eventide Home for the Aged in Emmarentia to receive a visit and donations from Meter Mate in Parkwood.

Meter Mate’s outreach department will spend Mandela Day (July 18) at Eventide Home for the Aged in Emmarentia this year.

Emma Nelani of Meter Mate said, “We are looking for donations for toiletry hampers and fresh food so that we can make them [residents] a great meal on the day.

“We are so grateful to everyone that has made our previous Mandela Days and events a success. Please support our outreach team by dropping off any non-perishable items at Meter Mate offices by June 30.”

Toiletries needed for the hampers include toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, shampoo, facecloths, male and female body lotion, Vaseline, baby powder, tissues, razors, shaving cream, after shave, a pair of slippers or winter socks.

Food for Mandela Day lunch includes fresh vegetables, tinned beans, lentils, soup mixes, herbs and spices, beef or chicken mince, fresh bread rolls, to be dropped off or collected on July 14. People may call Meter Mate on 011 788 1028 to pledge their support.
