Traditional stories to educate and entertain

New stories with relatable experiences for both young and old at National Children's Theatre.

Locals are encouraged to come and watch the production of Under the Baobab Tree by the National Children’s Theatre (NCT) in Parktown.

The production is a lively follow-up to NCT’s ground-breaking and Naledi award-winning production of Khokho’s Treasure.

The show will explode onto the stage from June 19 to July 24 at the outdoor Imagination Theatre.

In Under the Baobab Tree, the children find more wonderful surprises in the fantastic suitcase that their beloved Uncle Jack left them when he passed on. They enjoy their ‘treasures’ and bring stories to life as they sing and dance under the baobab tree.

The theatre’s professional, energetic, and multi-talented cast will take audiences on an original, action-packed interactive jaunt and point to essential life-lessons at the same time, with lessons about values and friendship and being creative and self-sufficient and instilling a sense of pride in our rich, unique South African culture and heritage.

The production will also deliver a charming selection of traditional stories, vibrant songs, pulsating rhythms, African drums, and lively dance to educate and entertain all primary school learners, ages four and up.

Ntambo Rapatla of NCT said, “We expect our audience, especially children, to feel proudly South African and not forget the spirit of ubuntu, the essence of being human.”

“After two years of the pandemic, we are ready to entertain and give our audience hope for a better tomorrow.”

Tickets at R135 are available on Quicket and all Covid-19 protocols will be observed.
