Learners taught of impact of human actions on the ocean

Ocean-themed accessories added to St Teresa’s Junior Primary to observe World Ocean Day.

St Teresa’s Junior Primary School in Craighall Park observed World Ocean Day on Tuesday 8 June by adding ocean-themed accessories to their school uniforms.

The event was celebrated on June 8. Computer educator and marketing liaison at the school Lianda May said, “From jelly fish umbrellas and shell crowns to pearl necklaces and mermaid tails, our school was transformed into an underwater wonderland for the purpose of informing our girls of the impact of human actions on the ocean.”

The theme for this year’s World Ocean Day is ‘revitalisation’: collective action for the ocean and by observing this day, ‘we hope to shed light on the communities, ideas, and solutions that are working together to protect and revitalise the ocean and everything it sustains’.
