Come and sing along to decade-old classics

The National Children’s Theatre hosts yet another sing along at its Imagination Theatre.

“When you read, you begin with A B C; when you sing, you begin with Do Re Mi,” (Maria von Trapp, The Sound of Music).

The National Children’s Theatre (NCT) in Parktown is asking theatre lovers to ‘dust off and warm up your vocal cords’, as they are back with a production that includes some of musical theatre’s most notable tunes.

Cindy Gordon of the NCT’s Trust shared that after the enormous popularity of the Christmas Carols Sing-Along last year, NCT is excited to present Musical Theatre Songbook on their outdoor Imagination Theatre. “This production will get your toes tapping and your vocal pipes warbling.

You may even sing a harmony or two,” said Gordon. The production will take place from May 28 to June 22 with the show being about an hour with no intermission.

The public is invited to join Thokozani Jiyane, Chad Alexander and Christine Ludwig along with the NCT Choir.
Gordon added, “We celebrate and guide you (and your voices) through decades of musical theatre. Songs will include hits from Mamma Mia, Grease, Frozen, The Sound of Music and The Lion King.

There will also be moments for you to rest, nibble your snacks and drink your hot chocolate; you’ll need to pace yourself because we can guarantee that you’ll want to sing along to our last few numbers. You are the stars of this show and we can’t wait to perform with you.”

The production is produced and directed by Ludwig. Musical arrangements by Ludwig and Alexander, while the choir conducted by Ludwig.

“We are happy to welcome back onto our outdoor Imagination Theatre, Alexander on keys and Ludwig as vocalist and host, and Jiyane to perform alongside them, adding his smooth baritone voice to the mix. Finally, we are delighted to be joined by the talented children from our theatre workshops. Bring your whole family, your best voice, blankets/chairs, and a picnic basket.”

Tickets at R150 are available on Quicket and all Covid-19 protocols will be observed.
