Revitalised security for the community

SafeParks launches its newly appointed security provider in Parkhurst.

Security initiative SafeParks hosted a fun family event in Parkhurst. The event was a part of the launch of the area’s revitalised security initiative. Through this event, Parkhurst families enjoyed a fun morning at Verity Park on May 14.

SafeParks is the security initiative of the Parkhurst Residents and Business Owners Association (Praboa). According to SafeParks chairperson Mike Rosholt, this initiative is created by the community for the community. Their core focus is creating a safe suburb where people and businesses can thrive.

“On Saturday morning, residents had the opportunity of engaging with Fire Ops SA – a privately owned firefighting company active in the greater Johannesburg area. As specialists in structural firefighting and rescue, they are equipped to respond to fire-related emergencies in record time. The children, and quite a few adults too, enjoyed meeting the firefighting crew while they explored the fire truck and learned about the emergency equipment.”

Rosholt added that the 24/7 Security Services K9 Unit attracted much attention with their K9 demonstration. “Their dogs are highly trained and can apprehend criminals in a controlled and professional manner. Detection dogs have an incredible sense of hearing and a powerful sense of smell – this enables them to detect disturbances from a distance, and well before any person or high-tech alarm system. K9 Bailey and K9 Gringo were definitely the stars of the day!”

Praboa appointed 24/7 Security Services as their public space security provider at the end of April 2022. Rosholt said, “This leading security company has been appointed by other nearby residents associations in the ‘Parks’ and has provided security services to the communities in the greater Parks area for more than 10 years. They have in-depth knowledge of the area and have established valuable relationships with the relevant communities, Parkview South African Police Service, and other stakeholders.”

Rosholt said SafeParks has a legal agreement in place with 24/7 Security which ensures accountability and that the power is with residents to terminate their services should the security provider no longer meet the security requirement of the Parkhurst community.

“SafeParks extends its gratitude to the residents who attended the event and to the SafePark members who continue to contribute and choose the SafeParks community scheme. SafeParks looks forward to engaging with the Parkhurst community at future events.
