Climate change is the greatest threat to humanity’s future and the life support systems that keep our planet alive.
Earth Day is observed on April 22 every year. The day is to reflect on our world’s climate change and how we can safeguard our environment.
Norwood and Orange Grove communities honoured the day by cleaning up Orange Grove Park and 12th Street in observance of this year’s theme Invest In Our Planet.
According to Ward 73 councillor Eleanor Huggett, the clean-up event was a day of community action and unity for clean spaces and recycling.
“I would like to particularly mention the Norwood Community Police Forum, Old Mutual, Pikitup, Johannesburg City Parks, Lifeline, Trinity Projects, and NoahCan for supporting this event. The collaboration of these groups was my highlight of the day and seeing the joy and excitement of the children of Ward 73.
“All the genuine learning that took place, I would like to thank everyone for such a wonderful day,” Huggett said.
