Norwood SAPS finds missing child

Masotsha said the suspect has been charged with abduction and kidnapping.

A missing child has been found by the Norwood police and reunited with his mother.

The spokesperson for the Norwood Police Station Sergeant Eric Masotsha said that on April 1, a case docket of a missing child opened after being reported by a mother at the station.

Masotsha said it was alleged that the child was last seen with his father who took him from his mother and promised to bring him back later in the day.

However, the sunset the following day and the child was never brought back to the mother, who then reported the issue to the Norwood police.

The father’s cellphone went to voicemail since the child had been taken.

A tracing team was implemented by the station’s detective branch commander and four members were tasked to deal with the case.

One of the members received a call from an informer on April 11 telling him that he knows where the suspect was hiding the child.

Members responded swiftly and went to Pretoria in Sinoville to meet the informer.

“A trap was made to meet the suspect which was successful and the suspect arrived in possession of a child.”

The mother was subsequently called to identify the child.

A warning statement was issued to the suspect who will appear before the court of law soon to decide whether to prosecute him or not.

Masotsha said the child was taken to a place of safety for medical attention before being handed over to his biological mother.

Masotsha said the suspect has been charged with abduction and kidnapping.

“The Norwood police and its management would like to thank the member of the public who made it possible for the police to reunite the child with his mother.”
