Norwood police recover two unlicensed guns

Two successful operations in one day resulted in busts and arrests.

The office of the acting Norwood Station Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Patrick Mathe applauded a member of the public who came forward with information.

The information resulted in the recovery of two unlicensed guns. According to spokesperson Sergeant Eric Masotsha, on April 9 at about 15:00, Norwood police under new management formed a concrete team. They braved the cold and went out in full force to remove two unlicensed guns from the community.

He added that a well-known illegal shebeen had ‘struck’ again. Two guns were recovered in Orange Grove. “The illegal shebeen has been raided several times with alcohol being seized and the dealer being arrested but on Saturday [April 9] it was another shocking breakthrough arrest which was effected by the acting station commander and Vispol Commander Lieutenant Colonel Prince Mogaila.

“Norwood management would like to give credit to the member of the public who keeps working for hand in glove with the police.”

According to Masotsha, on the same day during a special crime prevention operation, three more suspects were arrested for various crimes – two for assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm and one for robbery. This was all under the supervision of the detectives’ branch commander Lieutenant Colonel Nthabeleng Mahoa.

“All arrested suspects will appear before the court of law in due course,” concluded Masotsha.
