Wanderers Cricket Club Ladies team are Premier League Champions

The team won six matches, lost one and a further five matches were rained out.

The Wanderers Chariots, the first ladies team from The Wanderers Cricket Club, are Premier League champions for the second season.

The team won six matches, lost one and a further five matches were rained out.

Star player Marlene Grieb was ranked on top of the Premier League for batting, scoring two 100s and one 50 during the season.

In the bowling, young player Khanyi Nkosi tops the log with 10 wickets taken during the season.

The Wanderers Women’s second team, Wanderers Athenas, finished in third place in the Women’s President’s League with Old Edwardian’s on top of the log. Old Eds will be promoted to the Premier League while Caxton Khosa Cricket Club, which finished last in the Premier League, will be relegated to the President’s League.

Coach of the first team Graham McMillan said, “This is a fantastic achievement for such a young team, considering that some senior players were on provincial duty for most of the games. I think the depth of the team demonstrated the wonderful performers.

“It also demonstrated that wickets were spread over the four top bowlers and our second team ended third in their competition.”

Wanderers Women’s Cricket manager Maddy Wolmarans said, “I am proud of the hard work and sportsmanship all the players showed during the season. The positive attitude of all the ladies in the club is admirable. Young and old, we enjoy playing cricket for Wanderers Club.”

The Central Gauteng Lions are hosting the Jozi Cup T20 tournament from May to June. The Wanderers Ladies will enter a senior and U16 women’s team into the tournament.
