A popular local child author has taken on title of president

A multinational tech-based company has taken on board child author Stacey Fru as president.

In addition to having published five of her own books, a child author now leads a multinational education-focused company.

According to Dorcas Gwenhure of the Stacey Fru Foundation, Africa’s leading child rights activist, philanthropist and one of the continent’s biggest supporters of the African child, Stacey Fru has taken up the positions of director and president of tech-based company AfroStory, along with six adult team members and 10 shareholders.

Gwenhure said Stacey was the youngest member on the board and possibly the only 15-year-old South African child to lead a fast-growing company not founded by herself.

“This multiple award-winning international child prodigy, book enthusiast, community builder and internationally recognised child activists founded the Stacey Fru Foundation in 2018,” she said.

“The foundation is focused on education. For four years now, the foundation has recognised over 142 children aged seven to 13, from African countries in 11 categories. Stacey is a Grade 10 learner and a junior council member of her City of Johannesburg council.”

Stacey said, “My parents and the entire community have benefited from my gift. Although I have had no official mentor and coach since I took over the world stage as an eight-year-old in 2015, I would like to coach and mentor as well as motivate and promote other gifted children if their parents and caregivers give me a chance.”

While addressing the other shareholders during her acceptance, Stacey, who has been a shareholder of AfroStory since 2021 said, “I am so excited and grateful to have been voted in and to have been given the opportunity to be at the forefront of such an amazing initiative. I am a proud ‘AfroStorian’.

“The teamwork here is amazing. I am so proud of the progress our team here at AfroStory has made throughout the very few months of operation. We need to continue spreading our name through our work. I fully accept the position, and once more state that I am forever grateful to be president Stacey Fru of our multinational company known as AfroStory.”
