Two carjacking suspects arrested in Savoy Estate

SAVOY ESTATE – Bramley Police Station management welcomed the arrest and commended the action and commitment by CAP Security officers.

Two carjacking suspects, aged 22 and 32, are in custody following a failed attempt to get away with a victim’s vehicle in Savoy Estate.

The spokesperson of the Bramley Police Station Captain Molefe Mogodi said that on March 19, it is alleged that a victim was parked in a stationary position outside the gate of a complex in Savoy Estate, waiting for a friend to open the gate for him.

“Suddenly he noticed a vehicle pulling up behind him. Two men, one armed with a firearm, approached his vehicle. They allegedly threatened him with a firearm, ordering him to get out of the vehicle,” said Mogodi.

“One suspect opened the door, took the victim’s cellular phone and pulled him out of the vehicle.”

Mogodi explained that both suspects got into the car and drove into the complex to make a turn as the gate had already opened.

“Unfortunately for them, the gate closed while the suspects were busy arguing about engaging the reverse gear of the vehicle. Finally, they managed to flee, leaving the vehicle behind.”

Mogodi said the victim allegedly ran down the road to seek help from CAP Security officers.

The suspects were then arrested and the cellphone was recovered after being found in possession of one of the suspects.

Bramley Police Station management welcomed the arrest and commended the action and commitment by CAP Security officers.

A number of other arrests were secured by Bramley SAPS members over the weekend for assault, shoplifting, possession of a suspected stolen vehicle, common robbery and driving a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
