Roadworks affect traffic in Rosebank

Drivers are warned of roadworks at the corner of Tyrwhitt and Cradock Avenue in Rosebank

Drivers are warned of roadworks at the corner of Tyrwhitt and Cradock Avenue in Rosebank.

The Rosebank Management District’s assistant precinct manager Rorisang Sojane explained that the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) is upgrading the area which is part of the agency’s plan to upgrade Cradock Avenue.

“The upgrade intends to create a drop-off lane on the left of Tyrwhitt that incorporates metered taxis to the east and allows for a continuous flow of traffic right around the development of a new traffic circle,” said Sojane.

“By upgrading the road, it provides the opportunity of slowing traffic and eliminates illegal parking and the consequent congestion that same creates.”

The roadworks began on March 10 and are expected to end on April 8.

To deal with the congestion, the Rosebank Management District has sourced a Public Space Ambassador to assist with managing the traffic along that intersection to ensure the safety and security of motorists as well as pedestrians for the duration of the construction work.

According to Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) spokesperson Kelebogile Mafa, the area is identified as portion 12 of Erf 201, Rosebank.

Mafa explained, “The town planning development (Raven Town Planners) is carrying out site works which include the resurfacing of existing tar into paving bricks, allowing side parking space (for public usage). The JRA approved the detailed design drawings for the road closure.”

The current development is the result of the need for public parking space in the area, according to Mafa.
