29 suspects busted in a week

SANDRINGHAM – A major triumph was the busting of three males in possession of a hijacked vehicle.

Sandringham police arrested 29 suspects in the last week of February.

According to a statement shared on behalf of Station Commander Colonel Sanet Williams by spokesperson Warrant Officer Aaron Lebuso, the arrests were made from February 21 to 28 during various crime prevention operations in the Sandringham policing area.

These suspects were arrested for various crimes ranging from assault, grievous bodily harm, domestic violence, contravention of protection order, dealing in dagga, possession of dangerous weapon and possession of a hijacked vehicle.

“A major success in the whole crime bust was the arrest of three male suspects who were arrested for possession of a hijacked vehicle and possession of an unlicensed firearm on February 24, around 19:00. It is alleged that the trio hijacked a white Honda in Sydenham. The hijacked vehicle was spotted and stopped on the corner of Kernick and Johannesburg roads, Lyndhurst,” said Lebuso.

“The owner came to the scene where he positively identified the three males found in possession of the vehicle as the people who earlier hijacked his vehicle and also identified the vehicle as his. The vehicle was searched and a pistol was found inside. The three males failed to produce a licence for the firearm. The officers then put all the three suspects under arrest for possession of hijacked vehicle and possession of an unlicensed firearm.”

He said all 29 arrested suspects were detained at Sandringham Police Station and had since appeared in different magistrate’s courts around Gauteng.

Williams applauded the members for their dedication, hard work and effort in making sure that those who broke the law are put behind bars. She also reiterated the police’s position in fighting trio crimes, especially hijackings, in the area. She warned all hijackers that law enforcement will bring them down and make sure that Sandringham is a safe place for everyone.
