Stolen bicycle worth R30 000 recovered

NORWOOD – Security officers and police stop two suspects with stolen property, in their tracks.

A midnight arrest was probably least anticipated by two suspects caught in the act of theft.

Norwood police spokesperson Sergeant Eric Masotsha said at about midnight on February 24, local security officers were patrolling the Norwood precinct when they saw two guys pushing a bicycle.

“The officers approached them and simultaneously called the police. On their arrival, police identified themselves and asked to search both suspects and permission was given. When police asked where the men got the bicycle from, both failed to give a response.”

One of the homeowners heard the exchange between the police and the men and approached to check if everything was fine and to his surprise, he recognised the bicycle as being from his household.

According to Masotsha, the homeowner claimed the bicycle was valued at R30 000.
“Both [suspects] were arrested for housebreaking and theft as well as being found in possession of a stolen bicycle. Both have already appeared in court, and their bail applications were declined by the court so that further police investigations could be conducted.”
