Bramley police call for community members not to take the law into their own hands

MARLBORO – Spokesperson for the Bramley Police Station, Captain Molefe Mogodi said, "Once the suspect is handed over to the police, an investigation will be conducted and the suspect will be brought before the court of law where justice will be served.”

Bramley police urge the Marlboro community to report crime and refrain from taking the law into their own hands.

This warning follows an incident that occurred on February 18 where two people died, allegedly at the hands of the community.

Spokesperson for the Bramley Police Station Captain Molefe Mogodi said that on February 18 at 22:00 police were called to assist a man who was being attacked by the community.

“When the police arrived there, they found a man lying on the ground surrounded by some community members. The police called the Emergency Medical Services to come and assist the person. On their arrival, they examined the person who was then declared dead.”

Still in Marlboro on February 19, another man died – allegedly at the hands of the community in the afternoon.

Mogodi said that police are investigating murder charges.

“No one was arrested, but police are looking for the suspects.”

Mogodi appeals to the community not to take the law into their own hands.

“We expect the community to be the eyes and ears of the police. If it happens that you know a person who is wanted by the police or is suspected to have committed a crime, report such a person to the police.

“The community must never do any harm to the person who is already apprehended. Once the suspect is handed over to the police, an investigation will be conducted and the suspect will be brought before the court of law where justice will be served.”

Mogodi urges anyone with information concerning the suspects involved in these crimes to contact Detective Sergeant Amukelani Seweya on 078 835 7036 or Crime Stop on 086 001 0111 or drop a note in the infobox placed in the Client Service Centre at Bramley Police Station.
