Loaded with experience and knowledge

ROSEBANK – A bright vision lies ahead for the Rosebank community in terms of crime prevention strategies.

With a vast knowledge of policing and close to two decades of experience, the new Rosebank Police Station commander is set to elevate the station’s standards.

Lieutenant Colonel Sthembiso Ngubane recently filled the role of station commander after his predecessor was promoted to another station. Sharing his background, Ngubane said after college he began his career as a constable at Johannesburg Central Police Station in 1992.

During that time, his role included working at the Client Service Centre (CSC) and in crime prevention. “We were the crime controllers during those times, dealing with robberies and conducting arrests in the streets of Johannesburg. In 1998, when I was an inspector, I received a certificate after conducting many arrests and confiscating a large number of firearms,” the commander said.

He was then promoted to captain in 2005 and transferred to Yeoville police in 2006 where he was a relief commander. In 2013, he worked as an exhibit officer at the station and in 2015 went back to CSC as a relief commander as management felt that there was a gap in the assistance of clients at the front desk.

In 2018, higher duties awaited the experienced officer at Rosebank Police Station. Now a Vispol head, Ngubane’s duties included conducting visible policing, being commander in control, being in charge of CSC, detectives and crime prevention, and Vispol administrator.

“I always encourage members to work in unity towards one goal and to improve our communication with the community.” He added that they would strive towards an open door policy and work closely with the Community Police Forum and subcommittees.

A spokesperson for the station Warrant Officer Bongi Mdletshe commended the commander who achieved a degree in policing in 2002 and said both his experience and education backed up his position.

“We welcome the appointment of Rosebank Station Commander Lieutenant Colonel Ngubane. He is someone we know well and he is easy to work with and welcomes new ideas. He is a joyful and accessible person but when it comes to his work, he knows when to put his foot down while he serves the community with integrity. We will support him and ensure his journey is worthwhile,” he concluded.
