Dealing and possession of dagga lands shop owner in trouble

NORWOOD – The shop owner was found in possession of three full bags of dagga.

The Norwood police, under new management, arrested a businessman in Orange Grove on February 4.

Spokesperson Sergeant Eric Masotsha said Norwood police members under the supervision of Vispol Commander Lieutenant Colonel Prince Mogaila brought a man in for dealing and possession of dagga.

“Police were doing stop-and-searches along Louis Botha Avenue in Orange Grove. They stopped a man whom they searched and found that he was in possession of two packets of dagga in his pockets. After being asked where he obtained the dagga from, he gave the police a tip-off of where he bought it,” Sergeant Masotsha recounted.

He added that the police proceeded to the given address, identified themselves to the shop owner and asked to search the premises. Three, full, black refuse bags containing small zip-lock plastic bags of dagga were found in his shop. “When the shop owner was asked why he kept dagga in his shop he failed to give a reasonable explanation. He was then asked to close his shop and lock up as he was under arrest for dealing and possession of dagga.”

The suspect was taken to Norwood police cells for detention and would appear before a court of law in due course.

Masotsha concluded, “The police do appreciate the tip-off they received from a member of the public which brought good results.”
