Make Valentine’s Day special for Park Care residents

PARKTOWN WEST – The centre requests donations of lotions, soaps, deodorants, cakes, baked goods, cupcakes, juice, ice cream, cold drinks, sweets, chocolates, biscuits, dried fruit and raisins.

Park Care Centre in Parktown West appeals for community assistance to make Valentine’s Day special for residents.

The centre requests donations of lotions, soaps, deodorants, cakes, baked goods, cupcakes, juice, ice cream, cold drinks, sweets, chocolates, biscuits, dried fruit and raisins.

Social work manager Lorraine Le Roux explained that the home hopes to celebrate all big days including Valentine’s Day.

“We want to spoil our residents on Valentine’s Day with special eats and that is only possible with the assistance of the community. Many of the Park Care residents are frail and very limited and there is not much they can still enjoy in life. Nice eats and music out in the sun with their friends are special and precious for residents.”

She explained that on February 11, dementia patients at the facility will celebrate Valentine’s Day with music and dancing.

“The social work team facilitates this event and will spend Friday morning with the residents. We are planning to have hot dogs, ice cream and cold drinks,” said Le Roux.

On February 14, the rest of the residents at Park Care will be entertained with music and a special performance by Mohammed Sallie imitating Elvis Presley.

“For the residents, Valentines’s Day is a day to celebrate love – not only romantic love. They appreciate any involvement from the community to make these celebrations possible. It makes them feel relevant and not forgotten.”
