Join the 1st Waverley Guide Company
WAVERLEY – The Brownies meet on Friday between 16:30 and 18:00 while the Guides meet between 16:15 and 19:45 at the corner of Scott and Sterling Street, Waverley.
Girls are invited to join the 1st Waverley Guide Company where they will learn independence, life skills and more.
Main Guider, otherwise referred to as brown owl, Lindsey Barnes explained that the 1st Waverley Guide Company is part of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) and offers groups for Brownies (ages seven to 10 and a half) and Guides (ages 10 and a half to 14).
“Girls should join our group to have fun and learn new skills,” said Barnes.
“Girls learn independence and life skills that we have lost along the way, learn about the environment and caring for others.”
1st Waverley Guide Company has been in operation for a number of years while guiding has been around in South Africa for over 100 years.
Barnes has led the unit for the past seven years.
“It is still important for our young women to have a voice, learn independence and in general have the ability to express themselves.”
The girls have fun, play games, go on camps and get into communities to make a difference, explained Barnes.
