Matriculant doesn’t let sudden loss of her father hold her back

LINKSFIELD – With a great support structure around her, this courageous matriculant made it through.

For most matriculants, academics were not the only challenge in the year what with the pandemic and online learning.

However, for King David High School, Linksfied, matriculant Lexie Davies, had the added burden of a family tragedy.

Lexie had to deal with the tragic murder of her father during the year but this did not stop her from achieving. She managed to bag six distinctions and said her results had blown her away.

“I was so thrilled because there were many moments in the year where I was so overwhelmed and distressed to the point where I thought I wouldn’t be able to work, but I’m so proud of myself to have been able to preserve and achieve my results.

“As traumatic and overwhelming as both the grieving process and matric were, I am very fortunate to have the most amazing support system. From my family, boyfriend, friends and teachers, I was able to confide in people who would push me to do my best and help me navigate such trying circumstances,” she said.

This year, Lexie is tutoring and looking to volunteer for community work and said she would like to use her time wisely and take a constructive year off. “I have a few options available to me in terms of career choices but since my family went through such a tragic ordeal losing my dad, who was such a positive and inspiring person in our lives, I feel like he would have advised me to decide thoroughly which direction I should take.”
