Class of 2021 celebrate their achievements after a tough year in matric

The Rosebank Killarney Gazette visited many schools around the neighbourhood to capture the special moments. All of our schools should be proud of their achievements.

For thousands of matriculants this has been the week they have been waiting for. The Independent Examinations Board (IEB) released their results on January 19 with the National Senior Certificate (NSC) results revealed on January 21.

IEB achieved an overall 98.39% pass rate while NSC ended with 76.4% which is an increase of 0.2% when compared to 2020. The Basic Education Minister, Angie Motshekga announced that Gauteng’s pass rate was 82.8% making it the second-highest province.

Closer to home, St John’s College’s headboy, Sazi Bongwe, has been accepted to study at the prestigious Harvard University in the US.

Roedean matriculants, Gamlath Senarathne (six or more subjects) and Aaliyah Noorbhai (five or more subjects), both ranked in the top 5% of IEB learners.

Kingsmead College could boast about their head girl Ammaarah Wadee, who achieved a total of eight distinctions and was ranked in the top 1% for all her subjects.

Three sets of twins matriculated with a total of 41 distinctions between the six of them at King David High School, Linksfield.

Robyn Norval of Parktown Girls achieved a phenomenal 100% for art.
