Change for the better

After hanging with the wrong crew then seeing his greater potential, the matriculant decided to change for the better.

King David High School, Linksfield matriculant Dylan Kruger who achieved eight distinctions, with 99% in maths, turned his life around from what he described as being ‘academically mediocre’.

“Socially in Grade 8, I had a small circle of friends and academically I was mediocre, and I really struggled with maths. I decided to change and the main event that influenced me to change was when I got my first A ever in life sciences in Grade 8 because that showed me what I am capable of and encouraged me to put in the effort to achieve good results,” said Dylan.

He added that the results meant the world to him because he had put so much effort into attaining them. Sharing words of advice, he said, “I want everyone to know that they can achieve anything they set their mind to, I know it sounds cliché but I honestly believe it. My biggest piece of advice is work work work, and I don’t know if I should be saying this because I know many people say balance is important, but I personally feel that that’s not the best piece of advice. I think that during matric you should really just work as hard as you can.”

Kruger plans to study actuarial science at the University of Witwatersrand this year.
