Pandemic fails to deter matriculants who pass

HOUGHTON – The Head of Sacred Heart College commended the learners’ resilience and grit.

Head of College at Sacred Heart, Heather Blanckensee writes:

Sacred Heart College congratulates all matriculants, in Southern Africa, who wrote their matric examinations last year. Many of you entered this world post the 9/11 tragedy and now you have completed your schooling during the Covid-19 pandemic.

These two defining events of the first two decades of your lives will forever be etched in the archives of history as having a significant impact on the world and your lives. Being born in and growing up during this period of terrorism, economic recession, climate change, growing nationalism, racism and awareness of gender-based violence has contributed to you becoming globally aware, social justice warriors. You are regarded as the most connected, sophisticated and influential generation ever.

Completing your last year of schooling during the pandemic has sharpened your resilience and grit, forced you to reflect on your purpose in this life and encouraged appreciation and gratitude of your life’s memories, adventures and all that you hold dear, including family, friends and teachers.
