St John’s College Class of 2021 achieves outstanding results

HOUGHTON – Takudzwanashe Sithole is to be commended for achieving 100% for mathematics while Sazi Bongwe achieved 100% in life orientation.

St John’s College is extremely proud of their Class of 2021 who achieved 100% pass rate and 100% bachelor degree pass.

Of the 140 learners who wrote, 15 boys achieved an average of 90% and above, 68 boys achieved an average of 80% and above and 93 boys achieved an average of 75% and above.

The class achieved a total of 544 distinctions with 32.9% of learners achieving six or more distinctions. The average learner achieved 3.89 distinctions.

Executive headmaster Stuart West said, “These achievements would be exceptional under any circumstance, let alone after two years so severely affected by the pandemic. Our students have demonstrated resilience, a disciplined work ethic and academic responsibility which is evident in their academic excellence.”

Five students including Alexander Sittmann, Tivian Reddy, Sazi Bongwe, Kapil Ramlall and Christopher Pearce have been included on the IEB Outstanding Achievements list, achieving within the top 5% of candidates in six or more subjects, including life orientation.

Adam Gear, Luke Heurlin, Matthew Knight, Hamza Moosa, Keshav Rayment and Jun Tan featured on the IEB Commendable Achievements list, achieving within the top 5% in five subjects including a distinction for life orientation.

Takudzwanashe Sithole is to be commended for achieving 100% for mathematics while Sazi Bongwe achieved 100% in life orientation.

Mathematics had a 90% uptake at the school with an overall average of 80% in this subject.

Deputy head of academics Dr Colleen Henning said, “The St John’s results in all the key academic subjects have eclipsed the national IEB averages and we’re delighted with the achievements of our inspirational staff and the commitment of our young men to excellence.”

The top 10 learners were as follows:

  • Sazi Tommy Bongwe achieved nine distinctions and 95.9% average
  • Alexander Sittmann achieved eight distinctions and 94.7% average
  • Jun Tan achieved nine distinctions and 94.0% average
  • Tivian Reddy achieved eight distinctions and 93.5% average
  • Christopher William Pearce achieved seven distinctions and 93% average
  • Adam Sutherland Gear achieved eight distinctions and 92.8% average
  • Kapil Ramlall achieved eight distinctions and 92.7% average
  • Matthew David Knight achieved eight distinctions and 92.2% average
  • Ydhan Naidoo achieved seven distinctions and 92.2% average
  • Brett Brachmayer achieved seven distinctions and 91.6% average.
