Huggett confident that new coalition will bring change

NORWOOD – Huggett said, “I am confident that with our new coalition administration this situation will change. This is a process and not a quick fix, but our new MMCs are ready to serve and to be held accountable.”

Ward 73 councillor Eleanor Huggett said issues including illegal land use, land invasions of properties and parks, illegal dumping, poor maintenance of roads and failing power infrastructure were due to the massive backlog in service delivery across the city.

Huggett said, “All of these issues are resolvable and most of them should not have even been an issue if due diligence had been followed and action is taken thereafter.”

She has paper trails of official requests for assistance, inspections and action, but said the process seemed to stall after the inspection phase, if inspection happened at all, despite continued requests for action.

“I am confident that with our new coalition administration this situation will change. This is a process and not a quick fix, but our new MMCs are ready to serve and to be held accountable.”

Huggett said she was committed to working with the MMCs to get the Rea Vaya completed, resolve staffing issues at the Paterson Park Recreation Centre so that it could be fully operational and repair collapsing stormwater drains.

“I will continue to work to resolve all our issues in Ward 73 and thank all our residents, residents’ associations, Community Policing Forum and groups such as Noah Can for all their hard work and continued support in reporting and resolving issues that the City has been unable to resolve up until now.”

Huggett added she had a WhatsApp broadcast group that thousands of residents belonged to and she communicated daily on it.

“I value all our one-on-one chats and welcome these interactions.”
