RHA seeks community support

ROSEBANK – The Rosebank Homeless Association seeks the community’s continued support.

The Rosebank Homeless Association is grateful for all the help it receives from the community of Rosebank.

The chairperson of the association Judith Briggs said, “It is so heart-warming to find the collection box full of donations from the public. These all continue to be distributed via the social work team at the Immaculata Shelter and are much appreciated by those who receive them.”

She added that the shelter had continued to be home to about 50 residents for most of this year, and training courses were offered to the residents whenever possible. The shelter, along with Zinto Zinhle and Bokamoso are projects run by the homeless association.

Briggs said the Zinto Zinhle sewing team had been selling their sewn items at the Rooftop Market. She said, “The Rooftop Market is fantastic, but the competition is great, and so other markets are sought. This project [Zinto Zinhle] offers sewing training, and the opportunity to earn some money through sales, when possible. Other training is offered in different fields according to the needs and skills of the applicants.”

Briggs said Bokamoso, an initiative that sponsors the children of Homeless Talk vendors, continued to do so during these tough times. “I would urge residents to purchase Homeless Talk when they see it being offered for sale – it helps to sustain many without other employment.”

She added the shelter needed donations of non-perishable food and clothes, and the sewing team needed fabric and sewing kits. “And of course, our hope always is for people to find employment, so jobs are desperately needed. Cash donations are also most welcome as are any special treats for the festive season.
“Thank you to everyone who cares – and Rosebank does care – as has been shown in so many ways. And best wishes to everyone for a safe and secure festive season.”
