Stay safe while on staycation

JOBURG – Here are some tips to make sure you have a safe staycation.

While many residents are off on holiday, there will be many who have chosen to enjoy a staycation, but security should still always be on their minds.

CEO of Ria Sebetsa Security Danny Maduray said that even though residents might be at home during the festive season, they should remain vigilant against crime and make sure that their family is safe.

Here are some tips from Maduray for this festive season:

  • Make sure to have all your emergency numbers in order and clearly visible to everyone at home.
  • If you are enjoying time in your yard at home, remember to have a silent panic button in case something happens.
  • If you live in a complex, get to know your neighbours. Maduray said that many people in complexes don’t know their neighbours so it would be good to host a get-together and familiarise yourself with the people living there.
  • Don’t rely on lone security guards. Whether you live in a complex or freestanding house, don’t rely to heavily on a security guard on the street or in a guardhouse.
  • Make sure that your children are supervised at all times.

Maduray concluded that residents should not be complacent because they aren’t going away this festive season, and should take extra security measures.
