CraigPark Residents’ Association regenerates

CRAIGHALL PARK – A clear strategy paved the way in rebuilding the residents’ association.

The past year has been a year of regeneration and renewal for CraigPark Residents Association (CRA).

According to chairperson Markus Borner, during 2019/2020, membership had dwindled from 600 members to 130 members, and one of the oldest residents’ associations in Johannesburg, established in 1937, was facing an ‘existential crisis’.

“We are proud to report that we have turned this around, with membership approaching 400. We are a sustainable residents’ association again and will build from here. This didn’t happen overnight, the first thing we did was develop and communicate a clear strategy… This has resonated with residents as the numbers show,” said Borner.

He added that a strategy was only one part of the solution, and during the year, CRA had delivered on the listed initiatives below:

q Contracted with FireOps providing a free subscription to private firefighting service to members.

q Held two spruit clean-up days in Delta Park, and an Arbour Day in Hugh Wyndham Park.

q Maintained our green spaces including Delta Park.

q Coordinated the pothole repair programme with JRA.

q Initiated a Covid-19 relief programme, including a free vaccine bus service, vegetable gardens and the Scouts Soup Bags of Hope Programme.

q Part sponsored a homeless feeding scheme run by the Cairns family.

q Time trial on Wednesday at Vice Café.

q Commenced development of the Secret Garden at AJ’s.

q Run several focused membership drives.

q Implemented an annual budgeting process.

The chairperson expressed a big ‘thank you’ to the committee and residents who got involved.

Borner said while 2021 had been a trying year on many fronts ‘we believe the CRA community is well placed for next year’.
“We will build on what we have achieved, with additional projects that will benefit and build the community in our area. More on that early next year.

“Wishing the community, the best for the holiday season, please stay healthy and look after each other, as we look forward to an improved 2022.”
