Ward 73 councillor thanks the community

NORWOOD – The councillor said that number of people who have made significant contributions to the community is too great for her to count.

Councillor Eleanor Huggett ends the year by thanking all those who contributed to making sure that Ward 73 remains under good leadership.

Despite challenges and opportunities, Hugget deemed 2021 an exciting and challenging year. According to her, the community is looking forward to opening up Orange Grove Waterfall Site and thanked the Heritage Association of South Africa for its tremendous support.

Hugget said, “Due to Covid, we have lost many of our friends, family, and co-workers. Marian Laserson and Mildred Goodman, two friends who greatly enriched my life and everyone else’s, will be particularly missed. I’ve also noticed that new friendships have been forged, amazing support groups formed, and a real spirit of community has been created.”

She said the resident associations have been establishing a network of communication over the past few years, and that knowledge, expertise, and teamwork have been beneficial to the entire community. “The CPF is now up and running, with the neighbourhood watch doing an incredible job of protecting the rights of the community. A big thank you to all of you who volunteered so much time.”

She thanked Emily Wellman, the NoahCan Team, volunteers, and the community, in particular the Lower Houghton Residents Association, which has donated and worked hard to help so many people, and Venita Masisi, who organised regular functions for women and children as well as gift bags and food.

“Thank you to all the residents who donated so generously to the SPCA that we had to make four trips and I ended up adopting a six-month-old puppy named Charley Dara,” Hugget said.

The number of people who have made significant contributions to the community is too great for her to count, she said. “I would also like to thank all the officials who provide excellent service despite the many challenges and who always respond to my requests for assistance wherever they can.”

She concluded that the Ward 73 community is not only a community but a family and wishes all a very happy holiday season and all the best. “Take care, keep safe and I know we are all looking forward to a better new year.”
