Spokesperson thanks all role players in fight against crime

NORWOOD – However, the police station reports that eight out of ten of the cases have resulted in successful arrest.

Norwood precinct has had the challenge of common robbery and street robberies this year.

Norwood Police Station spokesperson Sergeant Eric Masotsha said, “We have had people being attacked while they walk and talk on the phone along the streets then having their cellphones snatched. Nonetheless, we had breakthroughs in terms of arrests. I can say eight out of 10 were successful.

“Once again we thank our local community members who are always extra-vigilant. Keep reporting all illegal activities to law enforcement. We can’t leave behind the security companies who are in collaboration with us in fighting a common cause. Neighbourhood Watch, keep it up.”

For the festive season, Sergeant Masotsha pleaded with residents to stay alive and not drink and drive.

“If you will be away for the holidays, just inform your neighbour, next of kin or relatives and tell them you will be away for a few days. However, don’t share such information with someone you don’t trust,” he advised.

The spokesperson also acknowledged that it is stokvel time and people will be sharing their money which they’ve been keeping safe from January till now.

Sergeant Masotsha said, “We, therefore, urge you to be vigilant also around ATMs; don’t seek help from strangers. I’d advise you to rather transfer that stokvel money via accounts rather than sharing it physically or in cash. You never know if the people you are sharing with are working hand-in-hand with criminals.

“May the Almighty bless us all for 2022.”
