Ward 74 councillor promise to uphold the rule of law

MELROSE – She has been doing regular visits to areas such as Kew, Gresswold, Highlands North, Bramley, Savoy, and Melrose, and anyone that is found breaking the law is and will be reported.

The new councillor of Ward 74, Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjoku encouraged residents to report by-law violations to the City.

She said in just a few weeks since she had become a councillor, she had seen the lack of respect for the law in the ward.

“Factories are operating in residential areas, buildings without plans being approved, car mechanics operating from pavements, a car dealership operating in a residential area, and taverns open after curfew with loud noise until 03:00,” she added.

Many residents in the area have reported these by-law violations and Kayser-Echeozonjoku said she had already received feedback from City officials and they have cracked down on some of these activities and issued fines.

She had been regularly visiting areas such as Kew, Gresswold, Highlands North, Bramley, Savoy and Melrose, and anyone that was found to be breaking the law would be reported.

“I am very pleased that our new Executive Mayor Mpho Phalatse has made it clear that to build a better Joburg we need to start with upholding the rule of law. Everyone needs to respect the law and we will not tolerate corruption by people who try to bribe our officers and officials.”

Details: Locals can report violations of by-laws to JMPD on 011 375 5911 or call the ward councillor on 084 970 0509.
