21 Bompas occupants evicted to Marlboro

DUNKELD WEST – The occupants could be seen loading their belongings onto trucks and a bus provided by Scorpion Legal Services.

On the morning of December 6, occupants of the property on 21 Bompas Road woke up to the recurring nightmare of evictions.

This time, however, it was reported that the occupants were not being thrown out into the cold as in times past. An alternative shelter was on offer for them.

Sheriff Pieter Wagenaar from Scorpion Risk Holdings said, “They have been evicted before and they went to court. The court order wasn’t right so they were permitted to move back onto the property.

“Now they are going to Marlboro. Shacks have been put up for them there and they will be transported by the buses and trucks with their belongings. There is an estimate of 80 occupants here today.”

South African Police Service members as well as Metro police were present to assist with traffic as the property is located on a busy road.

The Gazette has been following the developments around the property and on April 6, published a story regarding the eviction of occupants by the Red Ants.

Further developments after that eviction indicated that the court order brought by the Red Ants was invalid as the Socio-Economic Rights Institute of South Africa (SERI) challenged the court’s decision. The occupants then re-occupied the property until the eviction on December 6.
