Blood Knot returns to the Market Theatre 60 years after its first premiere

ROSEBANK – Audiences will be treated to premium theatre production that will give them a performance that tackles race, love and brotherhood.

For as little as R150, locals can book their seats for the global theatre icon Athol Fugard’s production, Blood Knot, which will make its unmissable return to the world-renowned Market Theatre.

Multi-award-winning theatre creatives come together for the first time to revive this timeless production, 60 years after its first premiere. The production will run at the Market Theatre’s Mannie Manim Theatre for a limited run from October 15 to November 14.

The play returns under the directorship of the award-winning director James Ngcobo, starring multi-dimensional acting veterans Mncedisi Shabangu. Due to personal reasons, Craig Palm regrettably withdrew from the theatre production following weeks of rehearsal. Ngcobo said, “It is unfortunate that Craig will no longer perform in Blood Knot, but we support his decision and wish him well.”

Palm’s role will be taken over by rising star Francois Jacobs, who is no stranger to Market Theatre stages. Jacobs starred in Athol Fugard’s People Are Living There in 2015 and made his directorial debut in 2020 with Victor Gordon’s Brothers which premiered to full houses at the theatre.

The audience will be treated to premium theatre that will handle racial issues, love, and brotherhood in a way they have never seen before. The play is based in the suburb of Korsten in Port Elizabeth, a place packed with people who are desperately trying to find an opportunity that will offer them hope.
