Local school celebrates learner’s selection for National School Games

PARKTOWN – This opportunity means so much to me because, for the last three years, it has been one of my dreams to play for the Gauteng netball team, says the learner.

Parkview-based school recently celebrated the achievement of one of its young netball players following her national call-up.

As part of the Gauteng U14 netball team that is set to compete in the National School Games in December this year, Mushishikwe Mamphiswana, a Grade 8 learner and also a netball player at Parktown High School for Girls, has been selected to represent the province.

Mushishikwe, who plays centre and wing-attack, began playing netball when she was six years old. The 14-year-old said her friends and family used to encourage her to attend netball practices after school. “It was lots of fun and I started getting serious as I grew up. ”

She explained that the opportunity of representing Gauteng at the nationals is just one of the many goals that she set for herself as she grows up. “This opportunity means so much to me because, for the last three years, it has been one of my dreams to play for the Gauteng netball team.

“Now that I have archieved this, I can see the good that netball brings, and now I have a chance to test my potential and see how far I can go.”

Mushishikwe shared with the Gazette that she would like to play for other netball teams in her area as she wants to hone her skills into becoming a better player and also make new friends outside school.

“Netball is full of excitement and rush, especially, when you are on the line-up. You get to create friends, learn to think quickly, and exercise.”
